Clinging Pinefruit

This huge fruit tree grows up to 48 feet (14.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 19 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in fine, cracked, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the dense wood is pine-coloured.

The branches are very long and thin and are covered with sparse amounts of huge, asymmetrical leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are found in dark brown, orange and indigo varieties.

In early spring, it produces thousands of small, drab purple blossoms with wide petals. They are very delicate and have a fairly strong scent that smells like faeces.

In mid-summer it produces large, 7 pointed fruit. The leathery red skin is thin and inedible, and the slightly crunchy violet flesh is spicy and very juicy. The red seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
