Aquafruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 37 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, wavy trunk covered in delicate, knobbly, brown and grey bark, and inside, the hard wood is yellow-brown.

The small handful of branches are short stubs and are covered with small bunches of huge, 8 pointed leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are indigo and faded red.

In early spring, it produces many small, turquoise blossoms with V-shaped petals. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like cotton.

In early autumn it produces small, pleated fruit. The smooth azure skin is tough and sweet and sour, and the crunchy sky blue flesh is sweet and syrupy. The bronze seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
