This burgundy moss is commonly found blanketing large areas In moorlands.
It is big, growing up to 8 inches (20 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps and they spread and grow quickly, and is slightly rigid.
When mature, emerald crescent-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early autumn to release hundred of spores.

It has impressive regenerative properties.
