Crimson Sicklevine

This average-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 106 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has many sturdy, curved stems covered in hard, silky, brown and grey bark, and the wood inside is yellow-brown.

The branches trail down to the ground with dozens of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of large, sickle shaped, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are solid crimson or olive, with copper edges, light and rough.

In mid-spring it produces thousands of small, copper blossoms with finger-like petals. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like fish.

In early winter tiny long, narrow fruits ripen. The fuzzy vibrant green skin is delicate and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the soft yellow flesh is extremely spicy and very juicy. The beige seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.
