Bloodfire Lime

This big fruit tree grows up to 44 feet (13.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 77 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a knobbly, curved trunk covered in paper-thin, rough, dark green bark, and inside, the flexible wood is light brown.

The extensive patches of branches are very short and thin and are covered with large amounts of huge, thick leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are generally blood red.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of small, turquoise blossoms with teardrop-shaped petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like musk.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, long, tapering fruit. The fuzzy brown skin is peel-able and slightly bitter, and the slightly crunchy blood red flesh is spicy and oily. The lime seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.
