Copperleaf Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 13 feet (4.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 25 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, wavy trunk covered in thick, ridged, light gray bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pale brown-grey.

The branches are very short and thick and are covered with very large amounts of large, wide leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of yellow-green that gradient shifts to orange at the top.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of tiny, copper blossoms with 5 umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like grass cuttings.

In mid-summer it produces small, needle-like fruit. The soft intense blue skin is delicate and sweet, and the very soft cyan flesh is savoury and very dry. The cream seeds are tiny and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for use as a construction material
Offering it in a bouquet is supposed to bring good luck.
