Bloodspine Caudiciform

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This average-sized caudiciform grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall. The thin stem is red or gold, and is covered in copious amounts of flexible blood red spines. The straight, beige trunk can grow to as much as 5 feet (1.5 meters) in diameter at the top. Its yellow-green branches are short stubs and start growing a quarter of the way up the stem.

The handfuls of smooth-edged, 4 pointed leaves are peach on the sides and bronze at the center. They are light, and easily come away when pulled.

It is slow growing, taking 28 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with olive petals that gradient shift to copper on the outer edge. The central disk is grey, grow at the top, reappearing after 10 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a bowl with 15 widely spaced, narrow petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like a woman.

The caudiciform's skin is tough, the blue flesh is rough, and the peach sap is thin and can kill if consumed.


It can flourish even in standing water.
