Clinging Indigo?

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 49 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in delicate, cracked, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the very hard wood is brown.

The branches are short and thick and are covered with thick bunches of tiny, crescent-shaped leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are brilliant yellow on the sides and cream at the center.

In early spring, it produces many small, indigo blossoms with long, tapering petals. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like coffee.

In early summer it produces tiny, spherical fruit. The crispy lime skin is peel-able and bitter, and the crunchy brilliant yellow flesh is sour and savoury and sticky. The caramel seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
