Clinging Pinevine

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 48 years. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many knobbly, curved stems covered in delicate, ridged, pine-coloured bark, and the wood inside is pale brown-grey.

The branches are short stubs with thousands of twigs that and are covered with small bunches of huge, stiff, pointed, leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are found in copper, pale orange and cyan varieties, sturdy and fuzzy.

In late summer it produces handfuls of tiny, crimson blossoms with cylindrical shaped petals. They are sturdy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like misty mornings.

In early autumn broad, flat fruits ripen. The fuzzy crimson skin is thick and savoury, and the soft pink flesh is bitter and powdery. The caramel seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.
