Bloodberry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 59 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in delicate, smooth, brown bark, and inside, the light wood is burgundy-brown.

The excessive amount of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of miniature, 5 pointed leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are found in pink and light grey varieties.

In early spring, it produces dozens of medium-sized, blood red blossoms with 5 kidney-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like new books.

In late autumn it produces , triangular fruit. The rubbery caramel skin is peel-able and sweet, and the soft blood red flesh is spicy and salty and very juicy. The brown seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It blooms only at night.
