Climbing Cinnamon Olive
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 25 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.
It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in ridged, brown and grey bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pale brown-grey.
The numerous branches are short and thin and are covered with small bunches of tiny, finger-like leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are either white, or pink with black zig-zags.
In early spring, it produces thousands of tiny, lime blossoms with many layers of petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like cinnamon.
In early autumn it produces large, pleated fruit. The hairy subtle blue skin is peel-able and inedible, and the soft pink flesh is sweet and oily. The olive seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.
The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.
The sap is edible and very savoury.
It is suitable for making paper
It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
A particular bird species likes to nest in it.
