Bloodfire Peach

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This average-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for around 38 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many long and flexible, twisting stems covered in paper-thin, wrinkled, burgundy bark, and the wood inside is pale yellow.

The branches are short, rigid and upright that and are covered with small amounts of large, 3 pointed, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are lime at the bottom and blood red with magenta streaks at the top, strong and flexible and smooth.

In late spring it produces many medium-sized, lime blossoms with 9 pointed petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a powerful scent that smells like faeces.

In midwinter tiny long, tapering fruits ripen. The waxy light grey skin is tough and sweet, and the slightly crunchy peach flesh is sweet and very dry. The red seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
