Clinging Amberfruit

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 31 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, twisting trunk covered in very thick, cracked, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the very dense wood is yellow-brown.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of large, circular leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of amber that gradient shifts to brown at the top.

In early spring, it produces several giant, azure blossoms with spear shaped petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a soft scent that smells like damp.

In early summer it produces very large, oblong fruit. The rubbery copper skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is savoury, and the crunchy subtle blue flesh is sweet and dry. The bronze seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
