Burgundy Willow

This average-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 27 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several narrow, slanted stems covered in paper-thin, ridged, dark gray bark, and the wood inside is burgundy.

The branches trail down across the ground with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of giant, asymmetrical, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are either hazel or pale red, with caramel patches, resilient and soft.

In mid-summer it produces handfuls of small, pale red blossoms with fan-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have an intensely strong scent that smells like fermented fruit.

In early winter oblong fruits ripen. The rubbery faded purple skin is stretchy and sweet, and the crunchy grey flesh is very sweet and sticky. The white seeds are large and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.
