This pink-red moss is commonly found growing in medium-sized clumps On trees, and In marshes.
It is small, growing up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches and they are exceptionally hardy, and is overwhelmingly resistant.
When mature, emerald shield-shaped capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-autumn to release millions of spores.
