Bronzebell Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 54 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, wonky trunk covered in thick, waxy, dark green bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is pale brown-grey.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with thick bunches of large, perforated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are silver and gold.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of giant, bronze blossoms with slender, pointed petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a soft scent that smells like rotten eggs.

In late autumn it produces large, circular fruit. The soft dark brown skin is peel-able and inedible, and the soft hazel flesh is bitter and savoury and powdery. The orange seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
