Spiny Trumpepetal

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small caudiciform grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. The wispy stem is moss green, and is covered in brittle brown spines. The wavy, lime trunk can grow to as much as 2 feet (61.0 cm) in diameter in the middle. Its black branches are tall, rigid and upright and start growing three quarters of the way up the stem.

The small bunches of smooth-edged, very thick leaves are olive at the bottom and purple with cream dots at the top. They are flimsy, and detach easily.

It is very slow growing, taking 24 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with solid hazel petals decorated with cream dots and a purple central disk, grow at the top, reappearing after 3 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of 18 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. It has a faint scent that smells like freshly baked bread.

The caudiciform's skin is rock-hard, the florescent blue flesh is waxy, and the dark brown sap is thin.

It is very rare outside of a particular area.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
