Watermelon Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This colossal fruit tree grows up to 67 feet (20.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 35 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in silky, light gray bark, and inside, the very dense wood is light brown.

The small handful of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with large amounts of giant, very thick leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are dark brown and yellow.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of medium-sized, peach blossoms with 7 spiral shaped petals. They fall easily and have the faintest scent that smells like soap.

In mid-summer it produces small, stiff, pointed fruit. The smooth blood red skin is thin and bitter and savoury, and the crunchy magenta flesh is sweet and sour and sticky. The lime seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
