Coniapple

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 49 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, twisting trunk covered in ridged, black bark, and inside, the hard wood is pine-coloured.

The excessive amount of branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of large, finger-like leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are ashy blue and dull red.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of large, pink blossoms with finger-like petals. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like rotten meat.

In late summer it produces , oval fruit. The rough deep purple skin is peel-able and inedible, and the soft indigo flesh is salty and sour and very juicy. The gentle red seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
