Waterpine Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 20 feet (6.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 35 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.
It has a slender, straight trunk covered in hard, cracked, gray bark, and inside, the very light wood is yellow.
The numerous branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of giant, wide leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are olive at the bottom and crimson with grey patches at the top.
In early spring, it produces hundreds of medium-sized, magenta blossoms with spiral shaped petals. They are hardy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like pineapple.
In early summer it produces , 7 pointed fruit. The leathery peach skin is delicate and inedible, and the slightly crunchy cream flesh is sweet and powdery. The crimson seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.
The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
