Bronzeberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 63 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, wonky trunk covered in thin, waxy, silver bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is pale brown-grey.

The numerous branches are short and thin and are covered with large amounts of huge, cylindrical leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid black with bright blue zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces thousands of tiny, brown blossoms with circular petals. They are very delicate and have a powerful scent that smells like fruity.

In early autumn it produces , spherical fruit. The clammy silver skin is tough and inedible, and the soft bronze flesh is bitter and powdery. The beige seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
