Blackwood

This large shrub grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for around 61 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has several slender, wonky stems covered in thick, knobbly, black bark, and the wood inside is yellow-brown.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright that and are covered with very large amounts of small, very narrow and elongated, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are black and amber, flimsy and waxy.

It produces many small, blood red flowers with crescent-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like fish. In mid-autumn it forms smallfaded blue aril (seeds with fleshy covers).
