This green moss is commonly found blanketing medium-sized areas In damp forests, On trees, and In heathlands.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches and they are exceptionally hardy, and is very flexible.
When mature, emerald flame-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early summer to release millions of spores; it can cause severe allergic reactions.

It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
