Azureberry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows, flowers and dies within one year)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 21 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, curved trunk covered in silky, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is brown.

The excessive amount of branches are short stubs and are covered with small bunches of tiny, very thick leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are either azure, or grey with intense blue edges.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of medium-sized, turquoise blossoms with slender, pointed petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like pine needles.

In early winter it produces tiny, pleated fruit. The smooth brown skin is delicate and edible when roasted; it is sweet, and the slightly crunchy grey flesh is savoury and very dry. The red seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It commonly grows in large patches.
It is suitable for making paper
