Silverberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 31 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, curved trunk covered in hard, rough, black bark, and inside, the dense wood is black.

The small handful of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of tiny, broad, flat leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are aquamarine and brown.

In early spring, it produces several medium-sized, silver blossoms with cylindrical petals. They are hardy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like rainy days.

In mid-autumn it produces very large, spherical fruit. The rough silver skin is delicate and inedible, and the slightly crunchy muted orange flesh is bitter and very juicy. The brilliant orange seeds are tiny and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
