Crimson Marzipan Flower

Flower type: Annual (Grows and flowers repeatedly for more than two years)

This average-sized flower grows up to 10 inches (25 cm) tall. Its yellow stem is wispy, and the miniature, moss green leaves are finger-like with rounded edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Several medium-sized flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 19 cm (7.5 inches) wide, with petals that are crimson on the underside and deep green on the top. The flower head is made up of handfuls of petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight cube. They fall easily.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like marzipan, and it has a modest amount of pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to butterflies.
