Caramel

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This average-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 36 years. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous knobbly, angular stems covered in paper-thin, rough, light gray bark, and the wood inside is dark brown.

The branches are very long and thin with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with small amounts of huge, wispy, leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of azure that gradient shifts to red at the top, durable and leathery.

In late summer it produces lots of giant, caramel blossoms with 6 umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a powerful scent that smells like pepper.

In early winter tiny asymmetrical fruits ripen. The hairy azure skin is thick and inedible, and the slightly crunchy dark brown flesh is sweet and very dry. The beige seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

It grows well in the sun and full shade.
