Bloodfern
Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 190 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.
It has several sturdy, slanted stems covered in waxy, white with black speckled bark, and the wood inside is pale brown-grey.
The branches are short, rigid and upright with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of giant, slender, pointed, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are blood red and red, delicate and soft.
It produces several tiny, cyan flowers with long, narrow petals. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like burning wood. In mid-autumn it forms largegrey seed pods.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
