This red moss is commonly found growing in medium-sized clumps In bogs, and In marshes.
It is massive, growing up to 1.2 feet (36 cm) tall. It forms in small clumps, and is extremely robust.
When mature, emerald spiral capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late autumn to release thousands of spores.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It only grows on the most fertile lands.
It can survive a long time without water.
