Golden Diskflower

This small flower grows up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. Its gold or beige stem is wispy and straight with a curved tip, and the miniature, silver leaves are wide with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Several medium-sized flowers grow in a bunch at the end of the stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with brown petals that gradient shift to drab green on the outer edge. The central disk is gold. The flower head is made up of 51 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight bowl. They are very delicate.

It has a mildly strong scent that smells like freshly washed clothes, and it has very little pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also particularly attractive to butterflies.
