Bluebell

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short caudiciform grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. The pleated stem is gray-green, and is covered in lots of rigid dull blue spines. The angular, gold trunk can grow to as much as 2 feet (61.0 cm) in diameter at the top. Its cream and dull green branches are tall, rigid and upright and start growing a quarter of the way up the stem.

The large amounts of smooth-edged, fan-like leaves are generally light grey. They are robust, and do not detach easily.

It is very slow growing, taking 14 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with petals that are either gold or sky blue, with a yellow center grows at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a tube with 21 widely spaced, narrow petals. It has an intensely strong scent that smells like old books.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the brown flesh is rough, and the green sap is thin.

It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
It can flourish even in standing water.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
