Mahogany

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 44 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has several stocky, twisting stems covered in very thick, wrinkled, mahogany-coloured bark, and the wood inside is black.

The branches are short stubs with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of giant, 2 pointed, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are blue on the sides and gold at the center, flexible and rough.

In mid-summer it produces thousands of large, yellow blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like lavender.

In late autumn oval fruits ripen. The hairy intense red skin is stretchy and edible when cooked; it is sour and savoury, and the soft blue flesh is bitter and spicy and very dry. The black seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The leaves are extremely toxic, and very sweet.
It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
