Copperfruit

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 41 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a thick, twisting trunk covered in waxy, silver and white bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is pale brown-grey.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with large amounts of miniature, circular leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are solid orange or copper, with light brown edges.

In early spring, it produces many tiny, gold blossoms with fan-like petals. They are sturdy and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like mint.

In late summer it produces , circular fruit. The leathery copper skin is thick and sour and savoury, and the crunchy grey flesh is savoury and very dry. The olive seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
