Crimson Moss
Moss type: MossThis crimson and blood red moss is commonly found growing in small clumps In bogs, and On rotten logs.
It is small, growing up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. It forms in sparse patches and they overwhelm an area rapidly, and is slightly durable; it can easily endure being trodden on.
When mature, emerald kidney-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late summer to release thousands of spores.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It can survive a very long time without water.
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It is bio-luminescent.
