Bloodfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows the first year, flowers the second year, then dies)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 16 feet (4.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 52 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, crooked trunk covered in thin, silky, black bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is yellow-brown.

The excessive amount of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of small, long, tapering leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are black at the bottom and blood red with brown edges at the top.

In early spring, it produces thousands of large, red blossoms with 3 teardrop-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have no scent.

In early autumn it produces small, perforated fruit. The clammy slate skin is thick and inedible, and the very soft light brown flesh is sweet and oily. The yellow seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
