Indigo

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This small cactus grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall. It splits at the base to form 2 tapering stems. Each stem is orange-yellow, and is covered in brittle bright green spines. The spherical body is lime green, and is covered in hundreds of fine, light brown, hair-like spines.

It is very fast growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with petals that are indigo in the center, beige in the middle and blood red at the edges, grow at the top, reappearing once every 5 years. The flower head is largely flat with many raised round-tipped petals. It has a weak scent that smells like citrus.

The cactus's skin is nearly impenetrable, the purple flesh is smooth, and the subtle blue sap is thin.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
