Bronzeberry

This large fruit tree grows up to 27 feet (8.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 34 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, curved trunk covered in very thick, waxy, brown and grey bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pale brown-grey.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with small amounts of tiny, perforated leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are olive at the bottom and cream with bronze edges at the top.

In early spring, it produces lots of giant, intense green blossoms with perforated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like fresh linen.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, circular fruit. The crispy aquamarine skin is stretchy and edible when cooked; it is sour, and the very soft purple flesh is spicy and juicy. The gold seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
