This copper moss is commonly found growing in small clumps In damp forests.
It is small, growing up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps and they overwhelm an area rapidly, and is overwhelmingly tough.
When mature, emerald oval-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-autumn to release dozens of spores; it does not cause any allergic reactions.

It is often home to a particular bird species.

It is overwhelmingly resistant to fire damage.
