Redwood

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 35 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in thin, cracked, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is yellow.

The numerous branches are short stubs and are covered with very large amounts of large, sickle shaped leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are dull red and lilac.

In early spring, it produces a handful of giant, slate blossoms with 7 shield-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like rotten egg.

In mid-summer it produces , cuboid fruit. The crispy light brown skin is peel-able and inedible, and the soft red flesh is sweet and dry. The olive seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
