Bluebell

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This large shrub grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for around 17 years. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of flexible, crooked stems covered in paper-thin, wrinkled, burgundy and brown bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches are short, thin and wispy with thousands of twigs that and are covered with small amounts of small, thick, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are sky blue on the edges and washed-out orange at the center, flimsy and crispy.

In late spring it produces clusters of tiny, washed-out green blossoms with many layers of petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like vomit.

In late autumn broad, flat fruits ripen. The soft indigo skin is peel-able and inedible, and the soft brown flesh is salty and syrupy. The silver seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

A particular bird species likes to nest in it.

It makes excellent hedges.
