Amber Whisper Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 56 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, straight trunk covered in very thick, ridged, dark brown bark, and inside, the dense wood is mahogany-coloured.

The small handful of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of tiny, asymmetrical leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are either cream, or dull red with washed-out purple streaks.

In early spring, it produces a handful of tiny, amber blossoms with 3 spiral shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like roses.

In early winter it produces , circular fruit. The rough blue skin is thin and inedible, and the slightly crunchy dull red flesh is savoury and powdery. The gold seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
