Bloodvine

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 27 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, wonky trunk covered in very thick, knobbly, dark gray bark, and inside, the light wood is burgundy-brown.

The small handful of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with large amounts of tiny, perforated leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are either slate or beige, with cream splotches.

In early spring, it produces clusters of giant, lime blossoms with 3 umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like rich perfume.

In late summer it produces , needle-like fruit. The smooth slate skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the slightly crunchy blood red flesh is sweet and juicy. The blood red seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
