Bloodfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 45 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in delicate, smooth, light gray bark, and inside, the very light wood is yellow.

The small bunches of branches are long, thin and wispy and are covered with handfuls of miniature, very narrow and elongated leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are either bronze or blood red, with black lines.

In early spring, it produces many bunches of small, blood red blossoms with long, narrow petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a faint scent that smells like an ocean breeze.

In mid-autumn it produces , hourglass-shaped fruit. The smooth lime skin is tough and inedible, and the crunchy copper flesh is salty and very dry. The lime seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is suitable for making strong rope
It can survive a very long time without water.
