Bronzeberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 32 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in thick, cracked, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the light wood is light brown.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with very large amounts of large, slender, pointed leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are bronze on the edges and vivid green at the center.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of medium-sized, vivid green blossoms with long, tapering petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have the faintest scent that smells like glue.

In late summer it produces tiny, stiff, pointed fruit. The hairy violet skin is thick and edible when roasted; it is bitter and spicy, and the soft azure flesh is savoury and very juicy. The faded orange seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
