Bluebell Bush

Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This large shrub grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for around 31 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of flexible, straight stems covered in very thick, knobbly, silver bark, and the wood inside is yellow.

The branches trail down towards the ground with dozens of twigs that and are covered with small bunches of huge, long, narrow, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are vibrant blue and yellow, rigid and crispy.

In early spring it produces dozens of large, azure blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like vanilla.

In late autumn 4 pointed fruits ripen. The fuzzy violet skin is stretchy and inedible, and the slightly crunchy bronze flesh is spicy and dry. The brown seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
It can flourish even in standing water.
It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
It only grows on the most fertile lands.
