Azure Flamevine

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 15 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many knobbly, wonky stems covered in thin, ridged, burgundy and brown bark, and the wood inside is black with white speckles.

The branches trail down towards the ground with thousands of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, very narrow and elongated, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are found in cyan, blood red and aquamarine varieties, delicate and clammy.

In early spring it produces copious amounts of medium-sized, azure blossoms with flame-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a fairly strong scent that smells like citrus.

In mid-autumn very large long, narrow fruits ripen. The hairy gold skin is thin and spicy, and the very soft turquoise flesh is sweet and very juicy. The bold green seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

Array
every part of the tree is very toxic.
It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
