Copperberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 36 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, twisting trunk covered in rough, dark green bark, and inside, the very hard wood is yellow.

The branches are short and slender and are covered with small bunches of tiny, thick leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are vibrant yellow on the edges and copper at the center.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of giant, purple blossoms with broad, flat petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have an intense scent that smells like something putrid.

In late autumn it produces very large, spherical fruit. The waxy vibrant yellow skin is delicate and sweet, and the slightly crunchy faded orange flesh is bitter and sour and sticky. The crimson seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
