Aquacrisp

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 155 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has dozens of very thick, straight stems covered in cracked, brown-green bark, and the wood inside is white with black speckles.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of tiny, very narrow and elongated, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are found in cyan, blood red and aquamarine varieties, rigid and smooth.

In early spring it produces handfuls of medium-sized, pastel red blossoms with 5 pointed petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a soft scent that smells like cherry.

In late autumn tiny long, curved fruits ripen. The leathery black skin is thick and inedible, and the soft turquoise flesh is sweet and juicy. The yellow seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
