Bloodfruit Tree

This giant fruit tree grows up to 54 feet (16.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 40 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, silky, light brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is silver.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with very large amounts of large, finger-like leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are red and slate.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of medium-sized, dark grey blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a powerful scent that smells like rotting meat.

In early summer it produces , perforated fruit. The sticky blood red skin is stretchy and spicy, and the slightly crunchy azure flesh is sweet and powdery. The faded green seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
