This orange-yellow moss is commonly found blanketing tiny areas In rainforests, In marshes, and In moorlands.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. It forms in sparse patches and they overwhelm an area rapidly, and is very resistant; it can easily endure flooding and draughts.
When mature, emerald V-shaped capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early winter to release hundred of spores.

It actively smothers and kills off other plants.
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
